Thanks for sharing! A lot of this stuff is way over my head, but you present the concepts in a very approachable manner. I'm definitely going to read it over a few times to see if there's any hope of my ever becoming a maker of "obey brew". ( : Would you recommend starting with HuC and then making the jump to assembly, or vice versa?

And, btw, I like your site's appearance as well. Nothing beats a dark theme with a firearm toting gal and a logo-backlight modded tg16!

I think you should go with HuC first because it's easier and there are many established tutorials out there (Obeybrew.com!)...

Good luck.

wow. small interwebs. sorry to get off topic, but I found this pretty neat:
I met nullity back in like 1999 or 2000, when he was co-founder and webmaster of rpgmaker.net. Sometime around 03 or 04 we lost contact. I finally managed to track him down earlier this year. That was about 2 months after my last, failed attempt at making a homebrew rpg with(Care to guess?) Engine001.

Maybe this isn't the grandest of coincidences, but it amazes me when things circle around like that.

Nice! I'm actually a moderator on the Engine001 forums, though not as active as I wanted to be... who knew nullity was a co-founder of rpgmaker.net. Small world indeed!

My head = exploded!

Punch, did you go by a different name back in the old days? Or were you not yet a part of the rm.net community that long ago?

Not really, I've been on Engine001 since 2009 but I only lurked on rpgmaker.net... I guess in the end everyone we know secretly obeys the PC Engine one way or another. :P

It would seem that way, although he does make a disclaimer that says he'll update when he has time, nothing's been added since Dec. 2013. It's a shame, too, even though I don't have time to tinker with obemulation right now, if the articles were still there, it'd be interesting/insightful to look them over.

NO JOKE, if and when I get the time, I am gonna make some stupid kiddie demo for TG-16.

I had so much fun doing demo/video games in BASIC for Apple ][ (and later, IIgs) back in the day...

I give myself 20 years. The number of people who will give a damn in 20 years will be...3-4 folks.

That's OK.

Can't believe it would take so much time for me to actually finish a game... on the NES :P

You probably can find the "tutorials" somewhere if you know where to look for but you shouldn't, they aren't that great anyway. Maybe someday I'll try writing something decent again.
